Muta House, a fascinating concrete house in Ecuador https://dailydesignews.com/muta-house-a-fascinating-concrete-house-in-ecuador/ https://dailydesignews.com/muta-house-a-fascinating-concrete-house-in-ecuador/#respond Sat, 07 Aug 2021 15:30:00 +0000 https://dailydesignews.com/?p=13803 Discover the architectural project of this house so differently!

Particularly interested in experimentation with various materials and the expressive possibilities of spaces, the founder of the Ecuadorian firm Emilio López Arquitecto has limitless creativity. This house located in a peripheral area of Quito, in the Nayón Valley, proves it.

Built on land that has a slight unevenness and offers privileged views of a mountain range. The interior areas are spread over 80 square meters and complemented by terraces of 40 square meters and an additional 15 square meters of space on the upper floor. Next to the main house, there is an independent module of 20 square meters. Next to the main house, there is an independent module of 20 square meters.

The social area – which has an open kitchen – occupies the ground floor characterized by its flexibility, since thanks to the opening of a mobile partition, an additional bedroom can be accommodated. The main room is housed on the upper level and opens onto two terraces.

“Two double heights are located on the diagonals of the house, the first integrated to the social area and the second to the staircase,” Emilio López commented.

This project that stands out for having several angles and focusing on geometry mixes two types of materialities. On the one hand, the walls and reinforced concrete slabs refer to the suburban environment that surrounds the house. “The polished concrete floors, the marks of the formwork seen in the walls and the marks of the reliefs of the slabs create different textures”, described the architect.

On the other hand, the independent structure and the additional part on the upper floor of the main house – which is smaller – are characterized by their steel cladding and wooden framed windows.

Creating both a contrast and a complementarity, this architectural proposal reflects the avant-garde vision of Emilio López.

Mansion without walls challenges housing concepts https://dailydesignews.com/mansion-without-walls-challenges-housing-concepts/ https://dailydesignews.com/mansion-without-walls-challenges-housing-concepts/#respond Sun, 20 Jun 2021 16:00:00 +0000 https://dailydesignews.com/?p=12088 Discover the architectural project of this mansion so different!

Just 10 minutes from downtown Zihuatanejo, Mexico, a project is challenging the housing concepts we are familiar with. It is a mansion without walls, called VillaMar, being built on the peninsula of Punta Garrobo.

Read Also: GET INSIDE THE KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN’S NEW MANSION IN PALM SPRINGS

Located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, the building has a vertical distribution. According to the released images of the prototype, the mansion’s room would be on the ground floor, while the living areas would be located on the first floor. The second floor must be dedicated to the garage, with space for at least two cars.

Fernando Romero is the architect responsible for the design of the VillaMar mansion and explains that the concept is based on a vertical programmatical division. In this play between nature and architecture the horizontal slabs establish their placement, contrasting with the rough context. The collision of rational perforated slabs and the rough slopes of the context, unite the different architectural elements, levels, and programmatic functions of the villa.

The mansion has an area of 1,100 m², but there is still little information available about the project, which makes it all the more mysterious.

Everything indicates that the mansion will be embedded in a rock on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, allowing the residence to remain isolated from the outside world, even without conventional walls.

Even before it’s ready, we’re already in love with this mansion. It’s amazing, isn’t it?

Get inside and take a tour of this luxury mansion!

One more day, yet another expensive Kardashians acquisition! Kourtney Kardashian shelled out about $12 million to buy a new mansion at the Madison Club in La Quinta, an exclusive golf club and gated community known for its high-profile clientele. Current Madison Club residents are a who’s-who collection of celebrities and business moguls that include Kris Jenner, Irving Azoff, Cindy Crawford, Nike’s Phil Knight, L.A. Fitness founder Louis Welch, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. Let’s look inside this mansion project, shall we?

Built on speculation by developer Richard Doan and completed this year, the mansion has a squared-off and squat façade with few windows — probably a good thing, given the blazing Palm Desert sun — and a locked gate that guards a sprawling courtyard with palm trees and a fire pit. There are more palm trees and drought-tolerant plantings in the front yard, along with the deep emerald gleam of artificial turf.

Great Room

The front door opens directly into the so-called great room, which spans the entire length of the mansion and features mesmerizing northwestern views of the Santa Rosa Mountains through walls of glass. There’s a convenient wet bar with quartz countertops, plus a wine room and kitchen with top-of-the-line finishes and appliances.

Private Office

The mansion was sold fully furnished, so Kardashian and her current squeeze Travis Barker will enjoy a variety of mostly neutral decor. In addition to comfy-looking armchairs, a private office boasts its own flatscreen TV.

Bedroom

The bedroom has enough space for a sitting area and head-on views of the mountains. Disappearing walls of glass seamlessly blur the line between indoors and out.

Swimming Pool

Undoubtedly the property’s pièce de résistance is the enormous backyard swimming pool. Infinity-edged and flanked by three towering palm trees on either side, the watery showpiece points directly at the snowcapped mountain peaks in the distance — like a sort of aquatic middle finger. Naturally, this showstopping amenity is perfect for Kardashian to share her sunbathing photos with 126 million Instagram followers.

And for not-inconsiderable monthly HOA fees of $1,485, Madison Club residents have access to an exclusive array of amenities, including a private clubhouse, five-star dining, and concierge services. There are also “wellness pursuits,” as the community’s official website puts it, with state-of-the-art fitness facilities and spa amenities available to owners.

Get inside and take a little tour of this fabulous architecture project!

Designed by Niemeyer in 1951 as his family home, Das Canoas House is considered one of the most significant examples of modern architecture in Brazil and is well recognized by specialists in art history as a synthesis of modern architecture and authorial self-creation that flourished in Europe and America. Das Canoas House now is open to the public, offering visitors a permanent exhibition on Oscar Niemeyer.

The house is located in Canoas, in Barra de Tijuca, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. It was built on the slope of a hill overlooking the bay and suggests panoramic images of the same. Historians and art critics define the house as one of the most significant examples of modern architecture.

Project Concept

Niemeyer said of the concept: “My concern was to design the residence freely and to adapt it to the unevenness of the field without modification, making it into curves, so the vegetation could enter them without separation or departure from the straight line.”

“And I created the living spaces to be in a shadow, to avoid the need for curtains and allow the house to be transparent, as I preferred.”

Niemeyer intended to design his residence in absolute freedom, to shape the environments smoothly and adapt to irregularities in the land: in this way only could he obtain the feel that the vegetation penetrated the residence.

Living Room

Canoa residence is made up of two plants are located in the lower the private environments, while at the top are the spaces. The interior decoration was designed by Niemeyer himself and his daughter Ana Maria: it gives the atmosphere a warm atmosphere of familiarity, which can be captured in the original curves in all corners of the house.

Ladder to Access the Upper Floor

Das Canoas House has two floors, with the interior half-buried. This feature gave complete privacy to Niemeyer, who received his guests on the upper floor.

Kitchen

A sharp curve forms the living room, another the dining room, and another the kitchen. This arrangement makes the spaces seem open and closed in the Das Canoas House architecture project.

Entryway

The windows of the ambiances are characterized by the outgoing profile and look at the subtropical vegetation. Nature is not separate or artificial, but it is free and suggested in all places of the architecture project, such as in the broad granite outgoing entering the room from the garden, almost emerging from the soil.

Many believe that this residence is the perfect synthesis of everything that the architect had experienced since his participation in Expo New York, in 1939. But, it is more than that, it was the turning point of the professional’s career, which became seek new ways of using concrete and using the external environment as a project-shaping element.

Inuce illuminates Chinese church with giant blue stained-glass window https://dailydesignews.com/inuce-illuminates-chinese-church-with-giant-blue-stained-glass-window/ https://dailydesignews.com/inuce-illuminates-chinese-church-with-giant-blue-stained-glass-window/#respond Sat, 15 May 2021 16:29:00 +0000 https://dailydesignews.com/?p=10322 Architecture studio Inuce has created a church wrapped in 100,000 panes of stained glass in Luoyuan, China.

This church aims to combine “Christian tradition and Chinese local authenticity”.

Built in the coastal city of Luoyuan in eastern China, the church was created to serve the area’s Christian community and be a refuge from the region’s rapid development.

Luoyuan church in China by Inuce principal Dirk U Moench

“Decades of industrial development and accelerated urban growth have scarred Luoyuan’s mountain slopes with quarries, sullied idyllic farmlands with factories, and pushed vast residential districts deeper and deeper into its hinterland,” explained Inuce principal Dirk U Moench.

“Built on a remote site in the midst of such desolation, the new church was conceived to offer refuge and comfort from the torments of a changing world and cater specifically to the hopes and wishes of many locals who grew up in the region,” he told.

Blue stained-glass walls

The church contains a main auditorium along with a youth hall, cafe, tea house, classrooms and offices.

The studio aimed to combine these functions in a structure that was informed by both Christian and Chinese traditions.

“The particular challenge of this project was to integrate the complex and mundane requirements of such a mixed-use building with the dignified presence of a place of worship, whilst retaining a sense of Christian tradition and Chinese local authenticity in this increasingly anonymous environment,” explained Moench.

Blue stained-glass walls

Each of the building’s functions is arranged around a courtyard with a small chapel at its centre, in a form reminiscent of the ring-shaped regional housing called Tulou.

However, unlike traditional Tulou the ring is broken by an entrance marked by a large cross.

Courtyard in Chinese church

“The adopted design for the Church of Luoyuan employs its basic organizing principle from the Tulou, featuring open corridors orbiting around a greened community courtyard,” said Moench.

“Rather than emulating the Tulou’s self-enclosed circular shape, however, the church forms an embracing gesture, which presents the outside world with a controlled yet welcoming passage to its inner realm, marked by the symbol of Christian faith – the cross.”

The church's main hall is illuminated by blue light

Designed as a “meditative counterpoint” to the courtyard, the main auditorium holds 1,200 people.

It is illuminated by a huge, blue window made from 107,707 individual pieces of stained glass created in reference to historic Christian churches.

“The Christian element is highlighted within the sanctuary space,” said Moench.

“It is enclosed by a facade featuring a total of 1,412 square metres of traditional stained glass, thus embracing an ancient tradition that especially younger generations of Chinese Christians are eager to re-discover and re-interpret within their contemporary context.”

Blue stained-glass

The stained-glass window’s multiple blue panes form an artwork designed by Moench called De Profundis, which is based on Psalm 130 in the bible, which reads: “From the depths, I have cried out to you, O Lord”.

“It evokes in the spectators’ eyes the impression of being submerged to the bottom of the ocean and surrounded by blue waters,” explained Moench.

“The absolute darkness is defeated and dispersed by an aura of divine light coming from the surface, right above the sanctuary,” he continued. “The image shows us that even in the darkest moments of our lives, when we feel despair and isolation from the outside world, we are not deprived of hope.”
