In the last few years we've seen the launch of new cruise brands such as Virgin Voyages and U by Uniworld aimed specifically at Instagram's core demographic, with ships designed to draw the attention of millennial travellers. But these cruise lines don't have a monopoly on visually arresting interiors, and we've seen some stunning new ships making their debut recently at the luxury end of the market, along with many old favourites that have undergone multi-million-dollar refurbishments.
So without further ado, here's our pick of the most Instagrammable suites at sea…
1. Regent Seven Seas Splendor: Regent Suite
The Regent Suite on board Seven Seas Splendor is one of the most luxurious suites we've ever seen, not least because of its size, at over 4,000 square feet! Every corner of the suite provides a picture perfect moment, from the lounge positioned above the bridge with 180 degree views and your very own bar, to the grand piano in your main lounge (yes, there is more than one lounge). Not forgetting your in-suite spa featuring hot stone beds facing out to sea - perfect for staying warm whilst enjoying a scenic cruise around Alaska or the Norwegian Fjords.
2. Scenic Eclipse: Owner's Penthouse
Scenic's brand new yacht, Scenic Eclipse, is incredibly photogenic, with her striking profile and onboard helicopter and submarine. The Owner's Penthouse provides all the space you would expect from a top-level suite, but the real pièce de résistance is the Jacuzzi located on your private terrace at the front of the ship, providing spectacular views. It is also worth noting the Owner's Penthouse can be combined with a Spa Suite to create a 2,500-square-foot two-bedroom suite - plenty of room to pose for a photo with the whole family!
3. Hanseatic Nature, Inspiration & Spirit: Grand Suite
Hapag-Lloyd's new expedition ships are 'inspired by nature', so it's no surprise that they have some of the brightest and airiest suites at sea. The natural light flooding into the Grand Suite will help you to capture great shots of details such as the free-standing bath, with views out to sea, and the shower that converts to a steam sauna. The ship is Instagram-worthy in its own right, and is also designed to take you to fantastically photogenic destinations such as Antarctica and the Arctic, with features including a heated wall in your bathroom for wet parkas, binoculars provided by Swarovski Optik and Nordic walking poles.
4. Ponant Explorers: Owner's Suite
Three of us here at Mundy were lucky enough to sail on the inaugural voyage of Le Bougainville, one of Ponant's fleet of six new Explorer class yachts. The whole ship is beautifully decorated, and the lavish Owner's Suite, located at the back of the ship, provides ample opportunity to capture the perfect shot for Instagram. Relax in your bath and soak up the sea views, lounge on your expansive private terrace as you cruise amongst exotic tropical islands, and capture the perfect sky-on-fire Greek sunset whilst dining on your private patio area.
5. Queen Mary 2: Queens Grill Duplex Suite
Cunard may not be the first cruise line that springs to mind when you're thinking about trendy interior design, but the iconic Queen Mary 2 is the very embodiment of ocean-going glamour, with plenty of eye-catching features. The Queens Grill Grand Duplex Suite is not the only suite at sea with more than one floor, but we can't think of many others with a showstopping centrepiece quite like its sweeping Art Deco-inspired spiral staircase. There is also fitness equipment provided in suite, if you are so inclined!
