Our Insight
The market leader on the rivers of Europe and throughout the world, Viking River Cruises is a global corporation. The company was established in 1997 by a Scandinavian and Dutch consortium led by Torstein Hagen, who those with long memories will recall was CEO of luxury cruise line Royal Viking Line back in the '80s.
Through rapid expansion, the purchase of KD River Cruise lines, and a huge programme of new builds, Viking speedily became the world's largest river cruise line, and currently offers cruises along the rivers of Europe, Russia, China, Southeast Asia and Egypt, with a new ship due to launch on the Mississippi in 2022.
A huge fleet of almost identical 190-passenger Viking Longships, complemented by Prestige Ships and other vessels appropriate for the rivers they sail on, are Scandinavian in décor, with a fresh contemporary style and plenty of natural light, enabling you to enjoy every moment you spend on the river. Swiss-trained, friendly and knowledgeable staff work on board.
Basic pricing includes shore excursions and wine or beer with onboard meals. There is also a focus on enrichment through shore excursions by local guides, regional foods, and Privileged Access for in-depth exploration, as well as the Viking Culture Curriculum programme including lectures; language classes; hands-on cooking demonstrations and classes; wine tastings; classical music; local entertainment; a well stocked library, and more. Choose Viking for a reliable, efficient and well presented river cruise.
